There are three main ways to show your commitment to something or someone. You can show commitment by giving up your time, your abilities and gifts, and your money. That's how you show your commitment to God, your life goals, and your relationships. And one of the most important life commitments is to the family.
Love is such a powerful thing, and it shouldn't be something treated lightly. Love means commitment, and it is demonstrated through sacrifice. One sacrifice that we make for the ones we love is our time, something we often times feel like we have very little of. With only 24 hours in every day, there is only so much you can do. There are classes to prepare for, friends to hang out with, streaks to remember to keep up with, places to go, things to do, and sometimes, or more often than not, it feels like there isn't enough time in the day for everything. Sometimes it feels like, to give more of your time to one thing, then you have to give less time to something else. As if there isn't enough time in the day for everything that needs to be done.
But get this. The things that are most important, top priority, the things you really care about and love, the things that you are really committed to, those are the things that you give your time. And it doesn't matter what else is going on in life, because if you really care about someone or something, you show it through your time. And if you have to give up something else to make time, you make time. That's what commitment is. Learning to make time for what you care about is crucial to living your best life, and that's what this is all about. If you are feeling dissatisfied with your life, perhaps you're not giving appropriate time to the things that matter.
Using your talents in a positive way brings glory to God as well as helps you succeed in real ways. When you're really committed to something, you give it everything you've got, including the best of your abilities. You put your heart and soul into that relationship, that instrument, that computer, that project, that song, that painting, whatever. You use your talents to make that "whatever" as great as possible. Using your talents to the best of your ability feels good, and also it makes good things happen. Stay committed to what matters, and show off that commitment by putting your talents to their best use.
Lastly, when things really matter, you put your money towards it. When you're supporting things you care about, money starts to matter less, and you are willing to sacrifice some money for more important things. Like family. That's what this is all about. I'm hoping that our love for our families will be so strong, and that we will be so committed, that we will give our time without hesitation, our talents without fear, and our money without reserve in order to make sure our families thrive. Our success as individuals depends on the success of our families, so don't be afraid to commit to your families. They matter. You matter. So commit to your families. It's worth it.
