With school, and often times with life, I have a "get through" mindset. What I mean by that is: if I can just make it through, pass that test, get through the day, finish my work, whatever it is, then I can make it. It keeps me going, it keeps me strong. I believe there is value in setting short-term, achievable goals, and these sorts of goals have power. Maybe you're a long-term goal-setter, but here are a few thoughts I have that just might help you. Or they might help someone else. That's the goal, helping people (I think that's a pretty good goal 😉).
When we set goals of any length, it's important to remember that pushing on towards the finish is worth it, and we can make it. Don't give up, get through.
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
First, let me say this. Every one of us must set goals. If we don't set goals, we can never become the high-functioning individuals that we have the potential to be. Goals help us keep the right perspective. Without them, most of us would never accomplish anything in life, and your life is too precious to waste it by living purposeless lives without goals.
But goals alone are not enough. You and I need good goals. What exactly makes a goal a good goal? Well, if you're asking JB, here are some of my thoughts. Good goals involve some of these components, and the best goals incorporate them all.
So, when you set your goals, try to incorporate some of these points. While crafting your goals, make sure they are doable. You don't want to work towards a goal that you won't reach. Put your efforts towards goals that you can succeed in. And work towards something. As you build upon your previous goals and successes, you should eventually start making noticeable progress as you produce your positive results.
I know I said goals aren't enough. Well, good goals aren't either (sorry). Armed with your great goals, you need to find a way to get through your goals. So, what do we do? How do we start completing goals? How do we get through?
Well, there are certainly methods that can help us as individuals get through to reach the end of our goals, but here are some general tips that can help you get through what you need to get through.
How about some more bullet points? To get through, you need to:
I know this is a lot, I'm still working on being concise (this blogging thing is cool, and I'm still trying to get better at it). Don't worry, we're almost done. I hope I'm getting through to you 😉.
Okay, so we have great goals and we know more about getting through our goals. So what are you waiting for? (Right now, I'm talking to those of us who don't have perfect goals set and a brilliant plan to get through life with ease). We all could use the help, me included. It's time to get to work. This summer, try to commit to setting goals and getting through. Do what works for you, be it a couple of sticky notes, a poster, a journal, or notes on your phone. Whatever works, use it to keep track of your goals. Get those goals set, and try your hardest to get through them. Don't forget to get connected and stay connected with other people to make those goals happen. Stay plugged in to God and let Him guide you through your goals. Don't give up when things get hard. Trust in God, believe in yourself, and work with your friends and your resources to make your goals happen.
You can make it through. I believe in you! 😉
