Do you ever just feel dirty? Like, maybe you just touched something disgusting and your hands feel just not clean? Or maybe you saw something revolting and you felt that yucky feeling? Have you ever done something, and then afterwards felt bad about it? Like, that guilty feeling inside that says Man, that was wrong. I shouldn't have done that.. Have you ever felt just unclean? Tainted? Impure? Yeah, it's a lot of questions, but there's a very specific feeling that I'm talking about.
I sometimes feel dirty. In life, sometimes I feel this feeling of guilt, regret, and remorse like I just tainted myself. We all have ways of dirtying up our lives. What we let come out of our lives, like our words and actions, and what we let into them, like what we breathe in, look at, eat or drink, or even keep inside of our lives like negative thoughts, these are all ways we can really mess our lives up and leave us feeling disappointed, disgusted, and dirty.
I don't know about you, but I hate this feeling. JB makes a lot of mistakes, but the feeling never goes away. So what do we do? Should we just tune it out? Become numb? No, we need to make an effort to stay away from those things in our lives that leave us feeling that way. Because really, we make God sad when we dirty up the lives He gave us. But don't worry! I'm so glad I know a God of love, and with His loving heart, He can and will make us clean. Let's talk about it.
Think about this for a second. It's 2018! It's a new year! That's awesome! This means we have an amazing, unique, special opportunity right now. What opportunity? Well, I'm sure you've heard of New Year's Resolutions, you know, those promises people make to themselves at the beginning of a new year to make a change in their own lives. Those are great, but I'm not suggesting that we make any resolutions just because it's a new year. Maybe your willpower is stronger than mine, and perhaps you are better at keeping promises, but I know that sometimes I struggle with keeping up with my resolutions, or even remembering them sometimes. Why does that happen so often?
We usually can't keep up with our resolutions because we make statements, promises, and commitments, but we don't try to change our habits. Habits? Yeah, habits. You know, those things you do so often, because you've done them so often, and you don't even have to think about them. Habits, they can be a powerful thing. When we develop our habits, our brain forms new neurological pathways, and as it rewires, we learn to do certain things automatically. Those can be great sometimes, good habits are great! They help us to do positive things automatically. One example of a positive habit is praying every morning. Try it! If you pray every morning, you can just let God know that you are giving your life to Him today. Ask Him to cover you during the day, to protect you, and to lead and guide you.
notes: new month, only takes three weeks to create a habit or break one, positive habits need to replace negative ones if we want to make our lives better 21 days to make a habit
